Review of “Slumdog Millionaire”

“Slumdog Millionaire” was dircted by Danny Boyle and Loveleen Tandan and written by Simon Beuafoy (screenplay), and Vika Swarup (novel). The IMDb link is http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1010048/?ref_=sr_1. The film website is http://www.foxsearchlight.com/slumdogmillionaire/.

This film follows the life of Jamal a young boy from the slums of India and his journey through hard times as a child to his adult years on the game show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.” Now he is suspected of cheating so through the process of questioning Jamal you journey question by question through his childhood, where you see how he was able to answer the question truthfully. Along the ride you learn of his older brother Salim who unlike Jamal let his rocky childhood dictate his future becoming a thug for a local gang leader. You follow thier struggles together and the constant clash of thier personalities and ambitions until the point where they split up after a fight over Jamals true love Latika. Latika has been in Jamal’s life since they were children, and ever since Jamal layed his eyes on her he knew she was the one. But after his confrontation with Salim over her all three of them split up until Jamal finds her again. So as Prem the guard  questioning Jamal before the big day of the last question, figures out how he knows the answers after hearing his life story, the question he is left with is “why does this kid need this money if he doesn’t care to be rich?”

I watched this movie at home this weekend. I chose this film because it is one of my favorite of all time. The way the story is broken up into memories of Jamal really makes his life easy to connect to and have extreme empathy for, which really brings you into the characters mind. I literally have no complaints on this film, it’s a masterpiece and I would reccomend it to any audience.
